Allred Farm & Buzzard Rock

The Allreds settled here in the mid-1730s. The farm at Buzzard Rock and the adjoining farms encompassed the original Allred family homestead. Built-in 1945, the farmhouse was constructed with wood from the original homestead building. The recently acquired cottage at Buzzard Rock, located across the road from the main farm compound, is the last portion of the original homestead.

The property remained in the Allred family for almost 300 years until the previous owners’ retirement. The farm produced tobacco, raised dairy cows, and raised chickens for significant distributors.

The farmhouse is a short walk from the historic Buzzard Rock. Legend says placing your hand upon the rock bestows blessings and good luck to a marriage. Whether or not you believe the legend, Buzzard Rock is worth the hike, as it provides a breathtaking view of the S. Yadkin River.
